This is off-topic here at Jugs n Tugs, but I find it interesting.
There have been quite a few Playboy posts tumbling in the last few days, and I am struck by the changing styles in pubic hair. This is Melodye Prentiss, the first Playmate to show pubic hair in the magazine, in July 1968. Before that, the pubic area was always discreetly covered, or the girl wore pants, panties, a towel, etc.
We don’t see much here, but the unshaped border hints at pubic hair in its natural, unruly state. Competition from the likes of Penthouse and Hustler pushed Playboy into showing more frontal nudity, and it’s our good fortune as erotic archeologists to have a pretty good record of pubic hair mores from this time forward.

This is Liv Lindeland, January 1971 Playmate. This is the first time that the whole pubic region is visible in Playboy magazine. In fact, Ms. Lindeland’s hair is so fine that you can pretty clearly make out her mons pubis. At any rate, the differing density of hair and jagged edges reveal an au natural pubic hair style that would rule throughout the 1970s.

This is Marilyn Cole, Playmate of the Year for 1973. She was the first to show pubic hair in her centerfold. This picture hints at some shaping going on, as other photos show her pubic hair to be much thicker and more unruly. It was probably that thickness, incidently, that emboldened Playboy to publish such a plainly open-legged photograph.

Patti McGuire, Miss November 1976. The dark hair against the very light skin gives us a good view of pubic hair that is growing in from all directions, still no sign of a preference for grooming in the mid seventies. Ms. McGuire went on to become Playmate of the Year.

Carina Persson, Miss August 1983. America is on the verge of the VHS revolution, where everyday people can watch pornography in the privacy of their own homes. Still little indication of pubic hair shaping, although it does appear to be trimmed somewhat down the middle.
